Severe Weather Emergency Protocol activated in London

11 Jan 2024

We’d be grateful if WPA and CPA members could help the GLA find short-term shelter in central London (ideally in zone 1 and 2) for homeless people during this freezing cold weather.

Do you have an empty leisure or retail unit, hotel or office floor which is weatherproof, can be heated and lit, with running water? If so, please get in touch with Rosie Day at rosie.day@cwpa.org.uk who can explain further requirements and put you in touch with the Mayor of London’s team.

The Mayor is working with homelessness charities and the London boroughs to find safe spaces across the capital and get rough sleepers off the streets during the dangerously cold winter weather. Read more about the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol here.

The GLA takes on responsibility for short-term use of any space offered and ensures it is returned in good condition. During the crisis period, the GLA’s charity partners including St Mungo’s provide the services for the users. This includes a warm meal, medical and other support, as well as a safe bed for the night.
