Download

This guidebook is part of a series of seven themed diversity booklets, commissioned by CPA and WPA NextGen, produced by London Property Alliance, and supported by NextGen champion, Gardiner & Theobald. Additional guides in the series focus on race, gender, disability, social mobility, faith & religion and intersectionality.

The original edition of this guide was published in June 2021, it was then updated in January 2026.

Creating inclusive workplaces and work cultures in the built environment sector can help attract and retain the best talent from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+.

This guidebook addresses the key barriers to how real estate businesses can be more inclusive. It suggests simple ways for organisations and individuals to implement positive change, featuring best practice examples and signposting to resources.

The guidebook is produced in partnership with Freehold.

In his foreword, Brian Bickell (Ambassador – Freehold) writes:

Unleashing individuals’ potential and harnessing the diversity of thought which comes through different lived experiences, rather than marginalising or excluding people because of who they are, will be critical in finding solutions to those challenges and the wider perception of our sector.”

The original guide drew on a London Property Alliance roundtable with our members, experts, and local government stakeholders; a podcast and blog examining Pride in the built environment; and interviews and meetings with leading activists, industry figures and diversity and inclusion networks.
